This is a provisional appointment.
Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):
The mission of the City of Boston's Property Management Department (PMD) is to manage, maintain, repair, and provide security for the City's municipal buildings, including City Hall and Faneuil Hall; to preserve the useful life of City facilities and reduce operating costs through effective preventative maintenance measures.
Under supervision, performs a variety of ordinary maintenance tasks of a semiskilled nature to buildings and grounds.
Responsibilities:
- Performs window cleaning, interior and exterior, repairs to windows and floors; cleans walls and lavatories; moves furniture; sweeps and mops floors; makes adjustments and repairs to toilets, sinks, and drinking fountains mechanisms; makes minor repairs to electrical receptacles and switches; changes bulbs; does painting and minor carpentry work; cuts grass and trims bushes; strips, washes and waxes floors; performs all cleaning duties involved with buildings and grounds, shovels snow.
- Operates equipment such as various power tools, floor washing machines, buffers and strippers, small mechanical sweepers, lawn mowers, weed and bush cutters, snow blowers, and plow equipment that does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Picks up refuse around grounds and does other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
- Delivers supplies to buildings using a vehicle.
- Performs related work as required.
Must be available to work any shift as assigned in a seven days per week operation.
Required to work any emergency as directed by the Commissioner of Property Management.
Minimum Entrance Qualifications:
- Ability to take direction.
- Ability to deal effectively with the public.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
- Must have and maintain a current MA Driver's License.
- Hoisting License preferred. If no Hoisting License upon hire, must obtain a valid MA Hoisting License within six (6) months of the date of hire.
