Overview:

Brief Job Description:

The City of Boston is seeking to hire a Labor Relations Analyst/Hearing Officer/Paralegal in its Office of Labor Relations. Reporting to the Director of Labor Relations, the Labor Relations Analyst/Hearing Officer/Paralegal schedules and conducts grievance hearings, analyzes evidence, and issues written decisions.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts grievance hearings, analyzes evidence, and issues written decisions.
  • Performs research and special projects in support of the office's litigation and collective bargaining cases.
  • Complies documents using proprietary database systems and other resources and maintaining collective bargaining files.
  • General office support, including phones, greeting visitors, scheduling hearings, and maintaining files.
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • At least three (3) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in labor or employee relations, collective bargaining, or a related field.
  • A bachelor's degree from a recognized school may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience. A master's degree in labor relations, public or business administration, personnel management, or related field may be substituted for the required experience.
  • Highly motivated self-starter.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills.
  • Strong oral and written skills, strong organizational skills, and competence with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
  • Studying toward a Juris Doctorate Degree is a plus.
