Perform electrical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion. Design electrical and overhead transmission components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers. Applies strong knowledge of commonly used electrical engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the electrical engineering services industry. Research and compile project related data as required by the project managers. Compiles information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for the design of overhead transmission lines. Telecommuting is allowed up to 30 days per year. This position will require domestic travel up to 10% of the time for client sites visit and other Burns McDonnell offices. This position may require international travel to other Burns McDonnell offices. Multiple positions available.

Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor’s degree, (or foreign equivalent), in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a directly related field plus three (3) years of electrical engineering experience.

A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, or a directly related Engineering Technology field must be accompanied with completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

Must have three (3) years of experience in each of the following:

  • Overhead transmission design ranging from 69kV to 230kV

  • Advise project teams and clients throughout the design process

  • Execute challenging design tasks

  • Implementation of quality control processes

  • Perform quality reviews for multiple deliverable types

  • Identification and communication of technical risks associated with projects

  • PLS-CADD

  • PLS-POLE

  • Specification development

  • Working knowledge of standard transmission codes, including ASCE 48 and NESC

  • Electrical standard engineering techniques and procedures

  • AutoCAD, MicroStation, 2D and 3D rendering programs and other analysis programs

Alternatively, the employer will also accept a Master’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology\*, or a directly related field plus two (2) years of electrical engineering experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree plus three (3) years of described experience.

A Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or a directly related Engineering Technology field must be accompanied with completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE)exam.

Must have two (2) years of experience in each of the following:

  • Overhead transmission design ranging from 69kV to 230kV

  • Advise project teams and clients throughout the design process
